The other profile pic posted here is an edited photo of my own eye, of which I used Photoshop to add a very slight reflection.

A relatively short time after the photo was taken, found out that I was a victim of age-related macular_degeneration, which was initially quite distressing, and a lifetime of cigarette smoking (no longer) may have contributed to it. Have learned to live with it, though, and a variety of general treatments and stronger glasses seem to be holding it at bay.

Just another reason to not smoke, and if you do, please consider quitting!

It will be twenty years ago this thursday that I quit smoking, and I was a fiend, I smoked at least two packs a day, at least.

I quit smoking 25 years in November, I wish you weren't diagnosed with MD but with today's advances in medicine there will be things on the horizon. I know how distressing something like that can be, when I had my first cataract in 2005 operated on about a month after the surgery I developed macular edema, which is swelling of the macular. So I was put through all the tests to make sure I didn't have MD...Well luckily what I had was just the edema from the surgery, so 2 more months of intense eye drops did bring the swelling down. But I was left with permanent distortion in the eye, which means it's a bitch when your in any bright situations & driving at night drives me crazy. And I have 20-25 vision in the eye, and this edema is so rare it only happens in one percent of the people having surgery. And I just had the other eye done a few months ago, not the same thing but problems also, I should just move in with my Doctor....We love your Eyes, John......JJ

Thanks for letting us know, John. People care about you, you know? And I'm sure MD will *not* be a significant problem for someone so active and full of life.
