For those who are unfamiliar with them, the Church of Scientology gives people free 'e-meter' tests to show that their personalities are ' broken' and can only be fixed by the Church.

The Norwegian press, including the tabloid Verdens Gang, has reported that Kaja Bordevich Ballo, daughter of Norwegian Parliament member Olav Gunnar Ballo, reportedly took her own life (English translation here) after scoring poorly on a Scientology personality test. There is some uncertainty as to the validity of the report, but the results of the test were time-stamped just hours before Kaja’s death. The family blames the Church of Scientology (Co$) for her death. They waited two weeks and decided to go public with the story, after the test results and a suicide note were discovered.

The personality test, also called the Oxford Capacity Analysis (OCA), or American Personality Analysis, is offered free by the Co$ and comprises an integral part of their recruitment efforts. The test however, has been extensively criticized as it almost exclusively yields negative results.

Kaja Ballo was a 20-year-old student at the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis located in Nice, France, and according to family and friends she was in good humor, had many friends and was enjoying her French studies. But on March 28, 2008, she was invited into a storefront Scientology center near the student housing complex where she lived, where she took the Scientology personality test.

A few hours later she reportedly killed herself by jumping from the window of her dormitory.

Her friends and roommates claim she was in good spirits and showed no signs of a mental break down or depression prior to taking the test. The test was stamped and dated by the Church just hours prior to her suicide, and said that she was "unbalanced, withdrawn and destabilized."

A fellow student claimed on national television that she "changed" after the meeting and the receipt of results of a controversial personality test she was given by the Scientologists.

"I believe Kaja would have been alive today if she had not gone to the Scientologists," says friend and fellow student Henrik Møinichen, 19, to Dagbladet.

"The information about the Scientology test has been made public through the priest's speech at the memorial service. I can confirm that. Due to the recency of her death, I don't wish to elaborate on or comment on other matters now," said Olav Ballo in a statement to the press.

<IMG height=145 alt="The Church of Scientology in Nice, France, offering their free stress test. They also state that it is "unfair to blame Scientology" for Ballo's death and that the test had nothing to do with it. Kaja left behind a note telling her family she was sorry for not "being good for anything."

The incident has generated criticism against the Co$ from friends, family members and politicians. Inga Marte Thorkildsen, one of the members of Norway's Parliament, told the <IMG height=164 alt="Oslo's Dagbladet was just one of the many newspapers that covered this story. He confirmed that his niece had suffered a serious eating disorder when she was thirteen years old, and had received both professional help and help from family and friends.

Matthias Fosse, information chief for the Co$ in Norway, rejected any links connection between Scientology and Ballo's suicide, and denied that the personality test was "dangerous", saying "millions" of people have taken it. He claimed no one lured Ballo into taking the test, and that he was told she'd walked on her own into the Scientologists' locale in Nice. He also pointed to Ballo's earlier eating disorder and suggested that she had a history of psychiatric problems.

This is amazing in concept to this writer, since the Church of Scientology has been publicly, and often vehemently, opposed to both psychiatry and psychology since the foundation of Scientology in 1952. It offers itself as an alternative to psychiatry, which Scientologists believe to be a barbaric and corrupt profession.

Kaja's uncle claimed she had fully recovered from problems that she had as a young teen seven years ago. Her father (below) blasted Co$ information chief Fosse's remarks, telling newspaper VG that the Scientologists were tarnishing his daughter's memory and showing utter disregard for her private medical history.

Psychologist Rudy Myrvang said a test like the one administered by the Scientologists is not constructive, and rather aimed "at breaking you down, and then they'll offer to build you up again." It's a recruitment tool, he said, and a means of generating future income for the church.

A Co$ critic, Andreas Heldal-Lund agreed, claiming the Scientologists viewed people like Kaja as "'raw meat from the street.' You're told you're worth nothing."

The Co$ has removed the OCA test from it's website at www.scientology.org/ocanor.htm although main site is functioning normally.

Heljar Ballo said his family had opted to go public with Kaja's suicide in an effort to shed light on what happened. He said the family "had confidence" in the French police, and their investigation. Kaja's father, the Norwegian MP, has also hired a lawyer to pursue the matter.

Kaja was buried at Grefsen Church in Oslo on Friday, April 11th. A large group of nearly 500 friends followed her to the grave. Many were also in support during a memorial held in the Stortinget (Norway's Parliament) the same afternoon.

French police have asked Scientologists in Nice in for questioning.

How many more times are we going to see needless deaths that seem to be related to this cult? Some former members of the Sea Organization, or Sea Org (Scientology's version of clergy, the group who essentially run the church), including a niece of David Miscavige, have begun to speak to the media about how they became increasingly disillusioned with the Church of Scientology... until they decided it was time to leave. Three members of Scientology's premier family, the Miscaviges, have left the church.

Ronnie and his wife left some years ago but their daughter, Jenna, only left in January 2008. Jenna is the niece of David Miscavige, the current leader of the Church of $cientology (Co$) and the only person who runs the church. He alone makes their policy decisions.

Jenna said she was asked to sign a billion-year contract to prove her devotion to the Church, because "in Scientology, they believe that you live lifetime after lifetime."

Not only has Jenna Miscavige left the church, but she has also decided to hit out against it and blow the whistle on the controversial policies of Disconnection and child abuse. Jenna reports that from the age of five, "If you flunked your uniform inspection... or if you were late... you would be dumped with a five-gallon bucket of iced water!"

Jenna recognizes that she represents an embarrassment and a threat to David Miscavige and is concerned that she will be targeted for retaliation.

Now out of the Church, Woodcraft, Hill and other ex-Sea Org member started their Web site ExScientologykids.com as a way to connect with other ex-Scientologists.

Deep within your cavern dark, a spring of truth abides.
How I hope you find this bottle, for my kisses are inside.

The light outside is dazzling; escape's a costly prize.
But gentle reader, grasp my hand -- and I shall be your eyes.

Behold a gallant queen, her son lost at sea.
She built a lighthouse to the stars, in hopes that he would see.

Her heartlights sweep the beach at night, the prince perchance to see.
In a lifeboat rolling on the waves, is where I'll wait for thee.

Eleven thousand suns and moons have risen, shone and sighed,
o'er the throne of her persistent heart denied.

I've met a king, a prodigal with careworn face so kind.
On foot he bears the banner of a son he's vowed to find.

Behind him stands a motley crew of knights both young and old.
Their merriments are legend; their cause for us is bold.

And upon a mighty web composed of sliver strands,
three sisters weave the orphans' tales to far and distant lands.

Eyes behind wise spectacles are blurred by tears and rain,
and love for shipwrecked families devoured for worldly gain.

Eleven thousand suns and moons, ten million twinkling lights,
have gazed silent on our tragedy -- and this is why they fight.

Their heart lights sweep the beach at night, and lifeboats dot the sea.
May fortune speed you safely here, to reconnect with me.

"The Lighthouse Letter" tells the story of families torn by the COS's policy of disconnection.

Ida Camburn, 85, was disconnected by her son over thirty years ago. An active critic of the organization's policy of disconnection, she is beloved by the many individuals and families she has strengthened, comforted, and inspired throughout the past three decades.

Ken and Grace Aaron have not heard from their son Zach in ten years. They have not asked that he leave the Church; only that he break his long silence and communicate with them.

Jenna Miscavige-Hill, Kendra Wiseman, and Astra Woodcraft are young women who braved the Church's disconnection policy, and remain separated from many loved ones inside. They came together to form a web community of support for ex-scientology kids.

Tory "Magoo" Christman, aka "Wise Glasses Lady," left the CoS in 2000, leaving behind three decades of family, friendship, and devotion to the organization. She has been a guiding star for Anonymous, urging non-violence and persistence in seeking its aims.

In April 2008, Anonymous will take a stand with these individuals and others, to engage in peaceful protest of the COS's policies of disconnection.

Please stand with us.
Eleven thousand suns and moons have risen, shone and sighed,
I've met a king, a prodigal with careworn face so kind.

He got cute and registered a permit for the church and street where we generally protest, and for the whole day.

In response to this we decided to hold our protest a day later, on Sunday, April 13th. This actually works to our advantage, because a Church of Scientology is open 7 days a week, and we've invited Anons from all nearby cities!

We will be hosting an intercity protest on Sunday, bringing in Anonymous members from Baltimore, New York, and Washington DC. Our goal, with this, is to more than double the size of our last event, to show the Scilons that interfering in our permits is entirely futile, and in fact that it would be in their best interest to not do so.

Let's show the Scilons that they just wasted $20 on a permit that will only double our forces!

To focus on the families affected by Scientology's "Disconnection" policy, Anonymous is having a picnic, so bring potato salad, delicious cake, and chips! And we'll take a collection for our now world famous 5-foot subs at the location.
Human Rites in the RPF - Tear Down The Wall: Berlin Legacy

The CoS's slave labor camps are an outrageous affront upon public morality.

Church devotees committed to the CoS's Rehabilitation Project Force (RPF), are routinely deprived of a number of universally recognized human rights.

These include:

The right to be recognized everywhere as a person under the law.
The right to freedom from undue restriction on affiliation and correspondence.
The right to be free from inhuman, cruel, or degrading punishments.
The right to be free from compelled servitude.
The right to due process under law.

The primary right of a member committed to the RPF is to "Full Scientology Justice at the hands of his Seniors and peers in the Rehabilitation Project Force."

The RPF is a looming shadow over the lives of individuals who were wooed to this organization by the promise of saving the world from certain extinction. It maintains a culture of fear that destroys families and individual lives.

The RPF, along with other institutionalized forms of slave labor within the church such as the Estates Project Force and the children's Cadet Orgs, must be abolished.

Why We Fight - Part 2

Write to Amnesty International, regarding abuses of Human Rights by the Religious Technology Center and Church of Scientology worldwide.

aiusaso@aiusa.org

Write to the United States Department of Justice, The United States Attorney General, and members of the United States Congress, about the perversions of justice that have allowed the Church to function as a tax-exempt inquisition-for hire.

AskDOJ@usdoj.gov

Correspondence to the Department, including the Attorney General, may be sent to:
On 10 February 10, 2008, Anonymous staged historic demonstrations against the Church of Scientology worldwide. The church called Anonymous "cyber-terrorists" and "bigots," and withdrew back into the shadows.
Ours here in Pennsylvania is the Ruffled Grouse, and in neighboring New Jersey it was the Eastern Goldfinch, but with Governor John Corzine's recent massive budget cuts and proposal to dissolve the state Department of Agriculture, this may be changing rapidly.

Corzine announced the proposal to eliminate the department when he unveiled his $33 billion budget in February. New Jersey would join Alaska and Rhode Island as the only states without agriculture departments.

In a statement issued after yesterday's rally, the governor acknowledged that the proposal would be painful for farmers but said the resulting savings were needed during the current financial crunch.

Some have said that the Eastern Goldfinch is too hard to maintain, and it appears that a more efficient and familiar state bird is being considered, as so fittingly demonstrated by actor Joe Gannascoli, from The Sopranos.

As you listen to the song, note Bono singing the following lyrics:

Early evening, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride...

Please also listen carefully to Bono's narrative about this song towards the end.

This was the the second song on U2's 1984 album, The Unforgettable Fire and was released as the album's first single. Written about Martin Luther King, Jr., "Pride (In the Name of Love)" is one of the band's most recognized songs. When it came out, Coretta Scott King (Dr. King's widow) heard it, then invited the band to the Martin Luther King Center in Atlanta. They made their visit during their 1984 US tour.

It's fitting that Bono wrote this song in honor Dr. King and his dream of spreading love throughout the world... and that its popularity has continued to grow over the years.

This song is being posted here on April 4th, 2008, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King, Jr., who was only 39 years old when he was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, the evening after he had delivered his "I've been to the Mountaintop" address.

As you listen to the song, note Bono singing the following lyrics:

Early evening, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride...

But as far as clever use of USB 2.0 technology goes, it's hard to imagine anything more innovative than the new p-Teq USB Pregnancy Test Kit and it's extra scientific information to be true geeky goodness at its best!

Pregnancy tests are quite binary by their very nature: one line or two. Yes or no.

The process starts off like most pregnancy tests. You pee on a stick (the absorbent test strip at one end), but everything's different after that first step. Remove the cap from the other end of the stick (cleverly provided to keep you from accidentally contaminating the wrong end) to reveal the USB connector. Pop it in your computer. The power from your USB port starts the electrospray ionization process, creating a spectrograph of the various masses for your analysis.

Get it? Your analysis? Urinalysis? [rimshot] Moving on...

You don't actually get to see the spectrograph yourself, as the mass analysis happens inside the device. And p-Teq's device only analyzes for specific chemical makeups, so you don't have to worry about this thing busting you for that "poppy seed bagel" you had yesterday. The mass spectrometry software on the device comes with several sequenced hormones, including hCG (human Chorionic Gonadotropin), hCG-H (hyperglycosylated hCG - for detection before your first missed period), and LH (luteinizing hormone - for detection of your most fertile days)... yes, it does all three. After all, if you're not pregnant and you wanna be, you need to know if now's the time to be gettin' it on.

While most home tests can detect a level of 15-50 mIU/mL of hCG, the enhanced methodology of the p-Teq USB Pregnancy Test Kit can detect 5-50 mIU/mL, and will show you the exact concentration via its friendly onscreen interface. In addition, the LCD display on the device itself will light up and show you the symbol of a baby, no baby, or multiples and your Estimated Delivery Date based on the concentration of hCG, hCG-H, and LH in your urine. So you can clear your calendar in advance.

After you're done reviewing your test results, just pop the device out of your computer and change the test strip. The display will remain lit for five minutes and then automatically power off.

• No batteries required - draws power from USB
• USB 2.0 compatible
• Plug and play, easy operation
• Operating Systems: Win 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista; Linux 2.4 or higher, Mac OS 8.6 or higher
• 20 test strips included
• 99% accuracy*

* 99% accurate in detecting hCG, hCG-H and LH, but check the online site for more detailed info.
